These last couple of days I was working extensively with the local wordpress installation on my computer. I had been tweaking the theme and several other things. Between all this tweaking, I had to install different versions of wordpress. I had been running wordpress 2.6 by default and had to downgrade to 2.3 to check something out. I went upon doing this downgrade as you would normally upgrade an installation of wordpress. I first deleted all wordpress files and copied over files from wordpress 2.3. I then ran the website and upgraded database, and tried to log in to my admin account. To my surprise, my password didn’t work no matter how many times and how many variations I tried.
