Windows Media Player 12 is the next version to be released in the windows media player series. It is currently in beta mode and is planned to be released for only Windows 7. Although, Misaki2009 from deviantART has come up with a trick that will let windows vista users install windows media player 12 on their computers.
You only need 2 core files from the Windows Media Player 12 12.0.7000.7000 for Windows 7 Build 7000 and copy those to your windows vista system folders. You need to do the following two steps to install Windows Media Player 12 on Windows Vista.
- Copy wmploc.dll in C:\Windows\System32
- Copy Windows Media Player folder to C:\Program Files

Windows Media Player 12 has many new features that are not found in Windows Media Player 11. WMP12 is brighter and lighter then WMP11. One of the many new features is Auto Previewing which lets you listen to a 15 second preview of a song when you hover over it in WMP12. Windows Media Player 12 also adds supports for new formats including H.264 video, AAC audio, and both Xvid and DivX video. This will enable WMP12 to play most of the stuff that you are able to download from the internet.

Player-ul functioneaza, insa la copierea fisierului: wmploc.DLL, in windows system 32, se va opta pentru ultima optiune de jos si anume : Copy, but keep both files.
In caz contrar sistemul de securitate al windows-ului, va impedica rescrierea fisierului peste cel vechi.
La fel stau lucrurile si in cazul copierii folderului Windows Media Player in Programs Files.

Ho fatto il procedimento descritto, ho sostituito il file wmploc.dll (facendo il backup del vecchio),ovviamente cambiando le autorizzazioni del file originale xkè sennò era protetto, poi ho messo la cartella di Windows Media Player in C: \ Program Files, ma il player non parte xkè mi dice ke il file nn è di Win32!! Fortunatamente avevo fatto il backup del file originali!! Se a qualcuno è riuscito farlo partire mi faccia sapere…
J’ai déjà essayé de installer ce lecteur, et à la fin tout ça il apparaît un message qui dit: C’est pas une application win32 valide, s’il vous plaît dites moi qu’est-ce que je dois faire pour que cela fonctionne! Merci d’avance

Salve a tutti, io ho provato il metodo da voi descritto su Vista Home Premium Originale però quando clicca su qualsiasi eseguibile mi dice che non è un applicazione win32 valida.
Non so non credo di avere problemi io, il media player v.11 funziona regolarmente.

U hoeft alleen maar 2 core bestanden van de Windows Media Player 12 12.0.7000.7000 voor Windows 7 Build 7000 en kopieer deze naar uw Windows Vista-systeem mappen. U hoeft te doen, de volgende twee stappen voor de installatie van Windows Media Player 12 op Windows Vista.
* Kopieer wmploc.dll in C: \ Windows \ System32

Ok I find out how to enable it.
1. go to system32 and then to wmploc.dll
2. go to the properties of wmploc.dll
3. now choose safety
4. and then choose adjusted
5. now choose owner and choose edit
6. change the owner to your name
7. close the window
8. choose at the properties window edit
9. and allow all for you, save it.
10. rename the old wmploc.dll to wmploc.bak.dll and save it!
11. now copy the wmploc.dll into the system32 folder
12. follow the other steps of instructions!

i have no clue on how to start
I was follow all the procedure (12 steps writted by German) and when i try to run the app I get a message “C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe is not a Win32 valid application”, so, it doesn’t work!!!!
i tried this method and still not working=get…..is not a win32 valid app.
* If Windows Media Player is running, close it
* Take ownership of wmploc.dll. To do this, Go to X:\Windows\System32 where X is the drive letter for the partition where Windows Vista is installed
* Right-click wmploc.dll and choose Properties
* In the Properties window, select the Security tab and press Advanced
* Select the Owner tab and press on Edit. If an UAC prompt appears, choose Continue
* Select Administrators from the list and press OK on all remaining Properties windows
* Right click wmploc.dll again and select Properties
* In the Properties window, select the Security tab and press Advanced
* Press Edit. If an UAC prompt appears, choose Continue
* Select Administrators from the list and press Edit
* Check the box next to Full Control under Allow
* Press OK on all remaining Properties windows
* Rename wmploc.dll to wmploc.dll.bak and back it up in a safe location
* Copy the downloaded wmploc.dll from the zip archive to the X:\Windows\System32 folder
* Copy settings.reg and restore.reg files to any folder you want
* Run settings.reg and press OK. settings.reg can be deleted now
* Do not delete restore.reg as you will need it if you plan to uninstall. please need more help!
this will not work and it will screw up vista. you will have to reinstall vista if you end up doing this. and no, a system restore/backup will not fix the problem.
wait till wmp12 is released thru windows b4 you start hacking registry/system files or go and download windows 7
EVEN THE WMP 12 IS RUBBISH IT DOES NOT WORKAS GOOD AS EXPECTED INSTALL VLC OR ZUNE OR ITUNE THEY WORK FINE
