GTA 4 System Requirements

First of all, I would like to introduce my readers to a new category on technodorm called “Games”. I will be posting about new releases and gaming related posts there. My first post is regarding GTA 4 System Requirements.  It was released on April 29th, 2008 for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 while it was released on 2nd December for PC. GTA 4 is the ninth title in the grand theft auto series.

Grand Theft Auto 4 has received many awards since its release and has gained immense popularity. It sold more then 3.6 million copies worldwide on the first day of its release while grossing more then $500 Million in its first week.

GTA 4 Minimum System Requirements

  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz or equivalent AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4Ghz
  • Memory/RAM: 1GB for XP and 1.5GB for Vista
  • Video Card: 256MB NVIDIA 7900 or 256MB ATI X1900
  • Hard Disk Space: 16GB free
  • Operating System: Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1

GTA 4 Recommended System Requirements

  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz or equivalent AMD Phenom X3 2.1GHz
  • Memory/RAM: 2.5 GB for XP or Vista
  • Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA 8600 or 512MB ATI 3870
  • Hard Disk Space: 18GB free
  • Operating System: Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1

  4. You would need a PC worth at least £600 ($1000ish) to play this on. no way a laptop would run it smoothly. guess its one for the rich kids!

  19. It should run with lower settings although your graphic card is weak so you should upgrade it to enjoy newer game like these.

    I have an Intel Core 2 DUO E6850 @ 3Ghz x2 cores, 4 Gig of ram and a Nvidia 9800GT and it doesnt run all the well , i get an average of 24fps and the settings are set very low with my resolution at 1280×1024 because im running a 30″monitor

    Your system is on the borderline for minimum specs. It may play but you will need to put all settings to lowest. If you upgrade your graphics card then you should be able to play at med-high settings.

    Yes, it will be a problem. You need Windows XP SP3 to play GTA 4.

    I cant say anything till you mention what video card you have. Even integrated graphic cards support upto 384mb but they still wont be able to play the game. Mention your video card and I can tell you if it will work or not.

    What video card? Make and model number are required to tell you if you can play this game although I doubt it since its only 128mb. You need at least a good video card with 256mb.

    Your processor is a bit slow but I dont think there should be much of a problem. Try running the game and you will find out.

    You haven’t told me anything. What processor? Is it Core 2 duo? What video card of nVidia do you have? How much memory does the video card have?

    Windows 7 is not supported by this release. Try running the game on windows xp or vista although you will only be able to play on minimum settings due to your video card. You should be able to play on minimum settings with low resolution very smoothly.

    And it STILL DOESN’T RUN on HIGH!!! This fucking game is driving me mad. I want to play high quality.. I play Farcry 2 with very high quality textures and in 1900 x 1440. What the hell?

    Is there a fix/patch/update for the Grand Theft Auto 4?

    Please let me know. I would pay 100 bucks for it.

    You might be able to play on your X3 AMD but it wont run high quality. The videocard should be fine!

    You have a great top notch PC but you are playing at a very high resolution. You may have been able to play Farcry 2 at that resolution but GTA 4 is a more demanding game. You either need to lower the resolution or get a better graphics card like the ATI 4870 or GTX 280.

  48. Your graphics card is a bit on the low side although you should still be able to play at lower resolutions. :)

  53. Your graphics card is not good. You need to upgrade it. Also, you should at least have 2gb of ram.

    I doubt you would be able to play this game as it is now.

  55. I doubt you will be able to play it on your computer. Your graphics card is not powerful enough. I wouldn’t buy the game if I were you.

    Upgrade your graphics card and then you should be able to play the game smoothly! :)

    The game runs at low to medium graphix, at 1024×768. Still a tad chunky.

    Guess a $45 graphix card just doesn’t cut the mustard. :p

  73. 512mb atleast of video.. pentium 4ht 3.3 ghz i have known this to work on as well. you just have to have everything on low settings and the resoloution lower than 1280×1024

  74. i have a intel quad core at 2.8GHz , comp only cost 350 , 500 gb and a 1000GB slave drive , 6GB ram , upgraded graphics card for £50 , got a decent computer for £400, got a HD 1080p screen and blu ray disk drive for £50 aswell by just asking my family Lol,

    i also swapped one of the unused processers from the ps3 with a 2.6GHz , so i have a 3.3GHz just like that it is incredible easy , and incredibly cheap for some people as well.

    I have a good experience with computers so i would not try to do the ps3 processor trick on you own , i tried it because i had two ps3’s and i was lucky enough i got the 8th processor in the ps3 which isnt used and i didnt get the 1st – 3rd which are the ones that run the games

    Oh yea if you have vista , vista ultimate package or premiem version works better with this game.

  87. cool i just bought gta 4 last night and it does run if you do not have a core 2. it looks amazing too. i guess the most important thing is to have a good graphics card. i have a nvidia 9600 and pentium 4. plays pretty good.

    There is something really messed up with your system if you aren’t able to play your games probably.
    1) Check that you have drivers installed properly for your graphics card and that your sli configuration is correct. This will most likely be your problem. :)

    Also, GTA 4 requires either Windows XP SP3 or Vista SP1, which you dont have, so you cannot play that game until you upgrade your OS.

    You should be able to play Crysis at high resolutions with high detail. Check your drivers.

    Btw, the i7 is a quad core cpu, not 8 cores. Although it has the ability of Hyper Threading which makes it act like 8 cores but it is not in the true sense, an 8 core cpu.

    I doubt it will work on your computer. Even though your graphics card has 512mb memory, it is a very low performing card and isn’t a true graphics card. You should really upgrade your graphics card if you want to play GTA 4.

    !!!do not forget to install Win Xp SP3

    there is good chance that the game will run…

    And install SP3 in safe mode

    nvidia 9600gt (just one, no sli yet, and i do plan to upgrade)

    runs fast on medium, but i know i need a new graphics card. Thats just to get an idea. I thought my machine was untouchable until i bought this game…good luck all. If anyone gets it runnin smooth, lemme know what graphics card your working with. Im in the market for one now

  105. i doubt you need a quad core to run the game..but man…this game kinda…sucks on pc just cause of how much you have to spend to get it to look even close to xbox36 or ps3.

  114. yo honestly yall, i dont see a whole lot of hope for any dual core. Thats just my opinion. My triple core is at 3.1ghz, and it runs on pretty low settings. I got 6gb of memory, my graphics card is a 6400gt. I’d say to buddy right above me, you may need some more ram, and some ghz on that processor. Alienware computers cost so much its rediculous. I’ve always wanted to get one tho. I checked out a used one on craigs for $600 that came with a freakin p4…PASS! If your not able to afford the alienware $$$ bucket, just upgrade your sht. Its gonna have to happen sooner or later. AMD if your ballin on a budget. Intel if your good, and alien stuff if your BAAALLIN!

    Ax – Most likely your graphics driver needs updating or it’s not good enough, try lowering all graphic properties.

    Sama18 – I doubt it. Sadly you will need an upgrade.

    metla09 – the new dell 15’s come with the 4750 ATI 256mb which is better than the 8600 nvidia. 3780 card is better but you are looking at a pricey machine. In the UK the 4750 ATI laptop is priced £500.00 which is a good price considering what you get. I would reccomend you head with a desktop though, you will get way more for your money! The game will run much better.

    Kaizer – RICH?? you are being silly. People if you have a new PC but no decent graphics card, then buy one! A card around £50.00-£110.00 will run this game nicely. Think of it this way though, if you own a console, the price of the games on those are silly, the controllers are over priced. Saving a couple of hundred pounds to upgrade and use your old stuff does no harm, and it’s not just for one game but in general your PC will be running better. It’s cheaper than a mobile contract for a year, and all you get there is phone calls. Plus, if you enjoy gaming then you will do it! don’t buy so much alcohol! I would say rich is spending over £1000.00 without feeling it. I would say middle class could afford £300.00 easily. If you are on benefits then save a little, but that time the equipment will be even cheaper!!
